Tascam’s Portacapture X6 keeps creativity flowing for Neon Vines
As an electronic multi-instrumentalist and music producer, Jackie Buono, known professionally as Neon Vines, loves to explore the creative potential of modern music gear and software. By blending the technical intricacies of music production with the expressive, emotional world of musicianship, she delivers a performance and sound that is both fresh and innovative in today’s industry.
Tascam’s Portacapture X6 is a vital component of her creative process. She describes some of the ways in which she uses it: “I find it extremely helpful for capturing spontaneous ideas that I come up with when I’m on the go or away from my computer. I often sing short rough ideas or concepts into the built-in microphone so I can revisit them later.”
“Recently I’ve been using the Portacapture X6 to record my handpan - a pitched percussion instrument - and hand percussion playing”, she adds. “I also enjoy recording audio samples from nature, then coming back into the studio and using little bits of chopped nature samples within my drum grooves. It adds a dynamic layer of depth and a breath of life to the beat that helps make the rhythms all that more unique.”
Buono reports that she has been working with her Portacapture X6 for roughly a year and a half. When asked about those features that she finds most beneficial to her manner of working, she says: “The unit’s portability is a major selling point for me. It’s really the only piece of gear I own that I can easily use for audio capture wherever I go. Also, the built-in mic preamps are high quality and very low noise, so it’s great for capturing the subtleties and details in sound without a high noise floor.”
“I use the Music and Field Recording presets the most often”, she furthers. “The music setting works great for live hand percussion, acoustic guitar, or vocal recording, while the field recording preset helps me capture environmental textures. Manual mode is great for fine-tuning input levels, EQ, and dynamics based on the sound source. I often tweak settings to optimize recordings for post-processing - especially when layering sounds for a complex arrangement.”

TAF präsentiert Neuheiten
Truss Aluminium Factory (TAF) stellt drei neue Produkte vor: das Safety Lock System, die TS36R Truss und das TAF Tensioning-Device.
Das neue Safety Lock System, das für den Einsatz auf dem TAF Tower 2 entwickelt wurde, entfernt sicher und effektiv das gesamte Gewicht des Grids von den Kettenzügen. Das dreiteilige System besteht aus einem Safety Lock Tube (62 x 6 mm Edelstahl), einem Sleeve-Block-Adapter und einem Safety-Lock-Truss-Segment, das fest am Sleeve-Block montiert wird und eine sichere Unterstützung bietet.
Die neue TS36R Truss, eine kompakte, rechteckige Truss-Linie (267 x 359 mm), verfügt über eine hohe horizontale/vertikale Tragfähigkeit, extreme Stabilität und hohe Haltbarkeit. Als kleinste rechteckige Truss-Linie im TAF-Portfolio bietet sie ein Quicklock-Verbindungssystem für den Aufbau und wird mit einem Verbindungskit als Standard für alle Geraden und Ecken geliefert. Sie ist außerdem vollständig kompatibel mit Prolyte-Traversen. Auf Anfrage ist eine Pulverbeschichtung in jeder Farbe erhältlich.
Beim TAF Tensioning-Device handelt es sich um eine Innovation, mit der Benutzer manuell die Spannung von PVC-Streifen erhöhen können, die auf den Keder-Dächern von TAF montiert sind. Eine erhöhte Spannung verhindert Wasseransammlungen und bietet besseren Widerstand gegen Windkräfte, die ein Streifenflattern verursachen können. Das Spanngerät wird direkt an Truss-Segmenten montiert und manuell mit dem beiliegenden Schlüssel oder mittels eines elektrischen Schraubers angezogen.

Vivitek bringt neue Projektoren auf den Markt
Vivitek präsentiert seine neue D5000Z-Serie. Die Projektoren mit einer Helligkeit von bis zu 7.500 Lumen sind in Weiß oder Schwarz erhältlich und für Konferenz- und Schulungsräume sowie Veranstaltungsorte, Museen und Galerien geeignet.
Die D5000Z-Serie umfasst die Modelle DU5051Z (6.300 Lumen), DU5053Z (7.500 Lumen) und DK5153Z (6.200 Lumen). Optional stehen drei Wechselobjektive zur Verfügung, die ein Projektionsverhältnis von 0,5 bis 1,9:1 ermöglichen. Dadurch lässt sich die Projektionsdistanz auch in anspruchsvollen Umgebungen anpassen. Das Kontrastverhältnis beträgt 3.000.000:1.
Mittels horizontaler und vertikaler Lens-Shift-Funktion kann der Projektor auch dann optimal ausgerichtet werden, wenn er nicht mittig platziert werden kann. Zudem unterstützen die Modelle vertikale und horizontale Keystone-Korrektur sowie eine geometrische 4-Ecken-Anpassung für nahezu unbegrenzte Montagemöglichkeiten.
Die D5000Z-Serie bietet optional ein Board mit HDBaseT-Schnittstelle für die Übertragung von Audio- und Videodaten über große Distanzen. Darüber hinaus stehen zwei optische Linsenoptionen (Standard und Kurzdistanz) zur Verfügung. 3D-Kompatibilität ist gegeben. Das optische System - von der Laserlichtquelle bis zum Objektiv - ist vollständig gekapselt und nach IP6X gegen das Eindringen von Staub geschützt.
Der DK5153Z unterstützt zudem eine 4K-Auflösung und ein 21:9-Bildformat. Er verfügt über integrierte Edge-Blending- und Warping-Funktionen, mit denen auch mehrere Projektoren zu einer nahtlosen Großflächenprojektion kombiniert werden können. Diese Eigenschaft eignet sich besonders für visuelle Simulationen und Präsentationsszenarien.
Mit der Vivitek-PJ-Control-Software lassen sich mehrere Projektoren zentral steuern. Die Software ermöglicht die Verwaltung von Anzeigeoptionen, Einstellungen und Zeitplänen über ein Netzwerk, um die Bedienung und Wartung zu vereinfachen.

Chauvet Professional introduces new REM Mira video panels
Chauvet Professional’s new REM Mira series of video wall solutions offers DCI-P3 colors and a range of installation options. The wall hugging LED system has been designed to make every step in the video wall design process easier, from hanging the panels, which feature universal magnetic LED modules, to mapping and scaling video with a Coex Visual Management System interface.
Available in two-pixel pitches (1.9 mm and 3.9 mm), the REM Mira pairs with Chauvet’s other REM models, allowing it to be combined with any venue’s fixed screens when used as a rental for special events. Both models of the REM Mira are driven by NovaStar A10 Pro receiver cards and MX series processors. Working with the Coex VMP software included in the REM Mira, these receiver cards, and MX series processors are able to deliver a wide and realistic DCI-P3 color gamut along with low-latency signal processing.
REM Mira offers various opportunities in terms of video panel installation by allowing frames to be pre-mounted. By hanging “bare frames”, installers can position empty frames in any configuration with the desired precision. Additionally, the frames can be populated with any pixel pitch modules even after installation.
The REM Mira panels feature a black frame and low reflector that accurately reproduces video at 22-bit + Grayscale. Anti-reflective coating on the panels makes them suitable for venues with stage lighting. A camera-friendly system, the REM Mira has a refresh rate of 3,840 Hz. Further REM Mira features include its front-end maintenance design and a universal vacuum tool accessory.

IP44.DE präsentiert Produktneuheiten 2025
IP44.DE erweitert sein Portfolio um mehrere Neuheiten. Dabei legt der Experte für Außenbeleuchtung auch in diesem Jahr einen Fokus auf Nachhaltigkeit und Ressourcenschonung. Neben der bereits standardisierten insektenfreundlichen Lichtfarbe von 2.700 Kelvin leistet IP44.DE mit neuen Dark-Sky-konformen Leuchtenmodellen einen Beitrag zum Schutz vor Lichtverschmutzung am Nachthimmel.
Darüber hinaus bieten viele der Produktneuheiten zukunftsorientierte Updates: Durch die Integration der DALI-2-ready-Option lassen sich die Leuchten automatisiert und intelligent im Heimnetzwerk schalten. Mittels eines neuen, besonders witterungsbeständigen Coastal-Grade-Finishs sind einige der neuen Leuchten nun auch für den Einsatz in Meeresnähe gerüstet, da auch salzhaltige Luft kein Problem für sie darstellt.
Die portablen Tischlampen der bereits etablierten Lix-Familie (Lix, Lix Mini und Lix Skinny) sind ab sofort in den neuen Oberflächen Chrome, Dark Chrome und Brass erhältlich.
Um eine umweltfreundliche Lichtplanung weiter voranzutreiben, hat IP44.DE einige neue Leuchten wie Cut Poller Control und Luci Down mit der Full-Cut-Off-Technologie ausgerüstet. Diese Dark-Sky-konformen Leuchten bündeln ihr Licht nach unten und strahlen es nicht in die Horizontale ab, damit Lichtemissionen weitestmöglich reduziert werden.
Der Nachhaltigkeitsgedanke von IP44.DE zeigt sich auch im wartungsfreundlichen Design aller Produkte: Beschädigte Bestandteile lassen sich austauschen, außerdem können in der hauseigenen Technikabteilung die meisten defekten Leuchten repariert werden.
Mehrere Leuchtenmodelle, darunter Eye Down und Iem.2, sind jetzt DALI-2 ready und entsprechen damit dem Standard zur smarten Steuerung von Beleuchtungssystemen. „Mit unserer neuen DALI-2-ready-Option lassen sich die Leuchten ins Hausnetzwerk einbinden und automatisiert schalten“, sagt Bernd Schmalhorst, Gründer und Geschäftsführer von IP44.DE. Diese Art der Lichtsteuerung kann sowohl im privaten Bereich als auch im Projektbereich eingesetzt werden.
Die Wandleuchte Las.2 mit rauchfarbener Glaskuppel und nach unten gestreutem, warmweißen Licht kann bei Tag und bei Nacht genutzt werden. Mittels optionalem DALI-2-Phasendimmer lässt sich Las.2 ins Hausnetzwerk einbinden und automatisiert ansteuern. Sie erfüllt den Standard für insektenfreundliche Beleuchtung.
Der integrierte Reflektor der kompakten Leuchte Li.2 bündelt das Licht vertikal Richtung Boden und setzt gezielte Akzente. Zum Design der Leuchte gehört ein Frontstreifen aus klarem rauchfarbenem Glas. Mit ihrer warmweißen Lichtfarbe von 2.700 Kelvin ist sie besonders insektenfreundlich.
Die Pollerleuchte Li.4 hält aufgrund ihres Coastal-Grade-Finishs langfristig salzhaltiger Luft stand. Auch sie ist mit der DALI-2-ready-Option automatisiert ansteuerbar und mit einer Lichtfarbe von 2.700 Kelvin ausgestattet.
Der volumige Strahler Bik.4 Spike ist für szenische Beleuchtungen, beispielsweise in Gärten oder an Fassaden, konzipiert. Er ist mit 15 Watt bestückt und mit insektenfreundlicher Lichtfarbe ausgestattet.
Die robuste Leuchte Bik.4 Base verfügt über einen Aluminiumkorpus und eine Basis aus massivem Aluminium. Ihr Kopf lässt sich um mehr als 300° drehen, um die gewünschten Lichtakzente zu setzen. Alle Bik.4-Leuchten lassen sich über IP44.DE Connect anschließen, verbinden und bei Bedarf umpositionieren.
Die Wandleuchte Iem.2 ist als reines Down- oder kombiniertes Up- und Downlight einsetzbar. Sie wurde mit Blick auf Projekte, bei denen moderne Lichttechnik und hohe Kosteneffizienz im Fokus stehen, entwickelt.
Die Deckenleuchte Down.3 kann dort eingesetzt werden, wo viele Einheiten oder größere Flächen auszustatten sind. Zudem lässt sie sich als Solitärleuchte verwenden und ist sowohl in zylindrischer als auch in rechteckiger Ausführung erhältlich. Down.3 ist mit DALI-2-ready-Option und einer Lichtfarbe von 2.700 Kelvin ausgestattet.
Die minimalistische Deckeneinbauleuchte Suq.3 kann aufgrund ihrer blendreduzierten Architektur und robusten Hochvolttechnologie ohne Vorschaltgerät in modernen Außenbereichen genutzt werden. Lichtfarbe: 2.700 Kelvin.
Das Downlight Luci Down zeichnet sich durch eine klare Kontur und schnörkelloses Design aus. Mittels Coastal-Grade-Finish hält die Leuchte langfristig salzhaltiger Luft stand. Ausgestattet mit DALI-2-ready-Option ist Luci Down automatisiert ansteuerbar.
In Ihrer Ausführung als Dark-Sky-konformes Downlight bespielt die Leuchte Eye Down mit schwarzem Reflektor die Fassade, nicht aber den Nachthimmel. Auch sie ist mit einem Coastal-Grade-Finish für Einsätze in salzhaltiger Luft versehen und kommt mit DALI-2-ready-Option und insektenfreundlicher Lichtfarbe.

Elations neue Paragon-Serie jetzt weltweit lieferbar
Nach ihrem preisgekrönten Debüt auf der LDI in Las Vegas im vergangenen Dezember sind die neuen Paragon-LED-Profil-Scheinwerfer von Elation jetzt weltweit lieferbar. Entwickelt in Zusammenarbeit mit führenden Lichtdesignern, steht der Paragon bei Elation für die nächste Generation intelligenter Unterhaltungsbeleuchtung.
Paragon wurde mit dem Best Debuting Product Award der LDI ausgezeichnet und ist laut Hersteller das Ergebnis jahrelanger Entwicklung. „Wir haben auf Lichtdesigner gehört, die mehr Flexibilität, eine höhere Lichtleistung und ein optimiertes System wünschten, das alles kann“, sagt Eric Loader, Global Vice President of Sales bei Elation.
„Von der Idee bis zur Umsetzung haben wir jedes Detail verfeinert, um sicherzustellen, dass Paragon nicht nur ein weiterer Moving Head ist, sondern ein echtes Arbeitstier, das die Messlatte für Beleuchtungstechnologie höher legt“, so Loader weiter. Seit seiner Markteinführung wurde Paragon bereits für große Konzerttourneen, Fernsehstudios und immersive Installationen spezifiziert.
Paragon basiert auf einer speziell entwickelten weißen LED-Engine mit Elations proprietärem TruTone-Variable-CRI-System. Dies ermöglicht Lichtdesignern die präzise Kontrolle der Farbwiedergabe mit einstellbaren CRI-Werten von 72 bis 93. Einsatzmöglichkeiten reichen von leistungsstarken Effekten bis zu sendetauglichem Keylight.
Ein Gerät, mehrere Anwendungen - Profile, Wash, Beam, niedriger oder hoher CRI. Es kann zwischen einer Standard-Profillinse, einer Fresnellinse für weiche, atmosphärische Effekte oder einer Blende für fokussierte Beams gewählt werden.
Paragon verfügt über Elations fortschrittlichstes und leisestes CMY-Farbmischsystem, kombiniert mit variablem CTO, schnellem Zoom, austauschbarem Animationsrad, dualen Prismen, dualem Frost, Hochgeschwindigkeitsblende und einem indexierbaren Framing-System für präzise Kontrolle auf jeder Ebene.
Für den Einsatz sowohl in Innenräumen als auch bei temporären Outdoor-Veranstaltungen konzipiert, schützt das IP54-zertifizierte Gehäuse vor Staub und Feuchtigkeit. Ein HEPA-Filtersystem optimiert die Kühlung und minimiert den Wartungsaufwand. Das Gewicht des Paragon ist um 30 Prozent geringer als das vergleichbarer Scheinwerfer in dieser Klasse.

Black Lion Audio bringt digital beschriftbare Patchbays auf den Markt
Die Beschriftung einer Patchbay ist eine Kunst für sich: Selbst bei sauberer Handschrift wird es schnell unübersichtlich, und wenn sich mal etwas an der Verkabelung ändert, entsteht entweder ein Flickenteppich aus weißem Tape oder man muss die gesamte Beschriftung neu anlegen. Die neuen PBR-LIT-Patchbays von Black Lion Audio treten diesem Problem entgegen: Die Verbindungspunkte werden digital beschriftet.
Die PBR-LIT-Patchbays kombinieren die Steckfelder mit einem LED-Display, das je nach Ausführung bis zu zwölf Zeichen pro Steckpunkt anzeigt. Die Helligkeit des Displays kann eingestellt werden, um sie an das jeweilige Ambiente anzupassen. Die Eintragung und Änderung der digitalen Beschriftungen an den PBR-LIT-Patchbays erfolgt über zwei Wege: Eine Tastatur kann per USB angeschlossen werden, um die Einträge direkt am Gerät zu bearbeiten; alternativ bietet die mitgelieferte PatchCAD-LIT-Software die Möglichkeit, alle Einträge am Computer (Mac oder Windows) zu bearbeiten, das Ergebnis auf einem USB-Stick zu speichern und dann am Gerät zu aktualisieren.
Zwei Varianten der PBR-LIT-Patchbays sind erhältlich: Die PBR TRS3 LIT bietet 48 Patch-Punkte als TRS-Klinken mit umschaltbarer Normalisierung und zwölf Zeichen Display-Platz pro Patch-Punkt; die PBR TT LIT führt 96 Verbindungen frontseitig als TT-Phone-Buchsen und rückseitig im DB25-Format aus und erlaubt sechs Zeichen pro Patch-Punkt.
Alle Buchsen der PBR-LIT-Patchbays sind vergoldet ausgeführt, um beste Signalqualität und Langlebigkeit zu ermöglichen. Dazu soll auch die solide Bauweise mit Stahlgehäuse und schwarz eloxierter Aluminium-Frontplatte beitragen. Die PBR-LIT-Patchbays von Black Lion Audio werden in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz von Audiowerk vertrieben und sind voraussichtlich ab Mitte April 2025 verfügbar.

Hof stellt Event-Carts vor
Mit den beiden neuen Event Carts EC16 und EC19 präsentiert Hof eine flexible, stapelbare, sehr leichte und dennoch belastbare Lösung für den Transport von Equipment vor. Die Carts können flexibel bestückt und für den jeweiligen Anwendungszweck angepasst werden. Der Umbau ist einfach und innerhalb weniger Minuten erledigt.
Die Event Carts sind eine flexible Alternative zu herkömmlichen Cases und somit eine praktische Transportlösung für (Veranstaltungs-) Equipment jeder Art. Um den Platz im Event Cart so effektiv wie möglich zu nutzen, sind die unterschiedlichen Ebenen in Abständen von 7,5 cm einschraubbar. Dies schafft Platz für umfangreiches optionales Zubehör, etwa Einlegeböden, Transportboxen und Handgriffe. Lampen können unterhalb der Transportboxen eingehängt werden. Die Event Carts sind bis 500 kg belastbar.
Da bei der Konstruktion wasserabweisende 12 mm Siebdruckplatten und Aluminiumprofile mit Wasserablauf verwendet wurden, sind die Event Carts auch im Außenbereich einsetzbar. Sie sind in zwei Größen erhältlich: Der EC16 hat die Maße 1200 x 800 x 1600 mm und der EC19 die Maße 1200 x 800 x 1900 mm. Damit haben beide Carts Truckmaß. Zusätzlich verfügt der EC16 mit seiner Höhe von 1600 mm über ein aircargofähiges Maß.
Die Event Carts werden in Deutschland hergestellt und können individuell mit Einlegeböden, Transportboxen und Handgriffen bestückt werden.

United Studio Technologies unveils UT Twin 48 microphone
United has announced the release of the UT Twin 48, a studio microphone that delivers two venerable classic tube microphone designs of the late 1940s and 1950s in a single enclosure. The UT Twin 48 preserves their iconic sound while delivering new levels of adaptability and performance. This microphone promises to be an indispensable tool for audio engineers and producers seeking massive tube sound and multiple tonal/pickup-pattern options in a single package.
The UT Twin 48's two operating modes go beyond just polar pattern selection. Classic 47 and 48-style mics each derived their cardioid operation in very different ways, producing subtle tone differences as well as a slightly different polar pattern. For the first time ever, the UT Twin 48 delivers both options in a single microphone. 47 Mode offers both 47 Cardioid and Omni patterns, while 48 Mode offers 48 Cardioid and Figure-of-8.
At the heart of the microphone lies a select NOS EF86 pentode glass vacuum tube, the last living descendent of the originals' tube. It delivers a bold, rich sound, due to the pentode's harmonic profile being much different than modern dual-triode tubes.
The UT Twin 48 features the custom United UT K48 capsule. Skinned in a laboratory clean-room environment and 24k gold-sputtered on 6-micron Mylar, this capsule ensures a smooth, resonance-free sound that's free of excessive brightness or sibilance. Complementing the capsule is the UT-BV8 transformer, a US-made marvel wound to original Braunbuch specifications with high-nickel alloy laminations and a copper Faraday shield, ensuring optimal signal integrity and noise rejection.
Featuring US-made components, discrete Zener diode regulation, and robust EMI/RFI filters, the power supply unit ensures clean, maintenance-free operation. A Sommer Cable Octave 7 conductor cable, optimized for the Twin 48, is included. Also included is a vintage-inspired briefcase - custom-fit to house the UT Twin 48 and all included accessories. The United Studio Technologies UT Twin 48 is expected to ship in Q1 2025.
Neuer Aktivmonitor C55-Reference von KS Digital
KS Digital präsentiert mit dem neuen C55-Reference einen digitalen Aktivmonitor mit breitem Einsatzbereich und kompakten Maßen. Wie alle Aktivmonitore von KS Digital ist auch der C55-Reference mit der exklusiven KSD-FIRTech-Digitaltechnologie ausgestattet. Diese ermöglicht eine zeitrichtige Auslegung aller Frequenzweichen- und Equalizerfilter. Die interne Signalverarbeitung erfolgt ausschließlich digital mit einer Auflösung von 192 kHz Samplingfrequenz und 24 Bit.
Mit Schallwandmaßen von 20 x 40 cm bewegt sich der C55-Reference noch in der Größenklasse von Kompaktmonitoren. Dank seiner großen Membranfläche, 350 Watt Gesamtleistung (RMS) pro Lautsprecher und 35 Hz unterer Grenzfrequenz erreicht er aber die dynamischen Anforderungen an einen größeren Hauptmonitor.
Alle ortungsrelevanten Frequenzen werden aus einem koaxialen Treiber wiedergegeben. Diese Punktschallquelle, bestehend aus einer 1-Zoll-Gewebekalotte mit Neodym-Antrieb und einem 5,5-Zoll-Tiefmitteltöner mit Fiberglaskonus, sorgt für eine punktgenaue und räumlich präzise Abbildung. Ein zusätzlicher reiner Basslautsprecher entlastet den Koaxialtreiber und sorgt für einen erweiterten Tieftonbereich. Ein rückwärtiger Bassreflexport erweitert den Tiefgang nach unten, wurde aber stark bedämpft ausgeführt, um den trockenen, präzisen Basscharakter konsistent zu halten.
Der C55-Reference kann stehend wie liegend betrieben werden. Durch den Einsatz eines Punktstrahlers ändert sich der Klangcharakter durch die Ausrichtung nicht. Auch beim Hörabstand ist der C55-Reference dank seiner Punktstrahler-Technologie flexibler als dezidierte Nahfeldmonitore: Er erlaubt im Nahfeldbetrieb eine zuverlässige Beurteilung der Raumabbildung aller Aufnahmen und setzt sich dennoch bei größeren Hörentfernungen durch.
Die internen DSP erlauben eine flexible Nutzung von sechs vollparametrischen Equalizern plus zwei Shelving-Filtern zur Anpassung an Raum und Hörpräferenzen. Black Lion Audio bringt mit dem Level-Loc einen Vintage-Klassiker in moderne Studios. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit Shure wurde deren Limiter/Kompressor um einige zeitgemäße Features erweitert. Der klangliche Kern bleibt aber dem Vorbild aus den 1960er Jahren treu und liefert eine kräftige Kompression und Sättigung, die sich im Studio besonders für Schlagzeugsignale bewährt hat. Die Ratio ist unveränderlich, der Threshold lässt sich über den "Distance"-Schalter in drei Stufen umschalten. Ein Mix-Regler ermöglicht einen stufenlosen Mix aus komprimiertem und unkomprimiertem Signal. Zusätzliche Optionen bei Ein- und Ausgängen machen den Level-Loc zu einem interessanten Werkzeug für die Klanggestaltung.
Der Level-Loc basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Limiter/Kompressor von Shure aus den 60er Jahren. Ursprünglich wurde der Level-Loc entwickelt, um eine kostengünstige und einfach zu bedienende Lösung für Sprachübertragung auf Bühnen und im Sendebetrieb zu bieten. Durch seine starke Kompression wurde er aber schon bald auch in Studioproduktionene vor allem für Schlagzeugsignale eingesetzt.
Die Beliebtheit des ursprünglichen Shure Level-Loc liegt in seinem speziellen Klangcharakter. Die Kompression greift aggressiv zu und prägt das Signal mit sehr deutlichen Verfärbungen, die von Oberton-Anreicherung bis zu brachialer Verzerrung reicht. Letzteres erreicht der neue Black Lion Audio Level-Loc vor allem, wenn die Eingangsbedämpfung ausgeschaltet und ein Line-Signal zugeführt wird.
Seinem Ursprung als Gerät für Sprecher, die mit den Feinheiten der Audiokompression nicht vertraut sind, verdankt der Level-Loc seine ungewöhnliche Parameter-Ausstattung. Die Ratio ist festgelegt und nicht veränderbar. Der Threshold lässt sich in drei "Distance" Stufen schalten. Damit sollten ursprünglich die Sprecher wählen, wie groß ihr Abstand vom Mikrofon ist. Der aktuelle Level-Loc hält an der Bezeichnung fest, um dem Vintage-Vorbild Tribut zu zollen.
Allerdings gibt es eine Reihe von Features, die dem Original nicht zur Verfügung standen. Der Mix-Regler mischt das komprimierte Signal mit dem unbearbeiteten Eingangssignal und ermöglicht so auch subtilere Eingriffe. Über die Kombobuchse können entweder Mikrofon- oder Line-Signale zugeführt werden. Ausgangsseitig gibt es wie beim Original einen XLR-Ausgang mit Impedanzwahl sowie zusätzlich einen Klinkenausgang. Phantomspeisung ermöglicht den Betrieb mit Kondensatormikrofonen. Ein 50-dB-Pad erlaubt den sinnvollen Umgang auch mit anderen Signalen. Ein Schalter auf der Front ermöglicht die Wahl zwischen "Standard" und "Mod" und damit zwischen den beiden Release-Geschwindigkeiten.

Krystal Dawn turns to Tascam’s DR-10L and Portacapture X8 for filmmaking
When it comes to capturing audio, the ability to do so efficiently and discreetly often goes hand in hand. Such is the case for filmmaker, writer/director Krystal Dawn. Hence, the ability to hide the mics and transmitters from the camera are often essential. To achieve this function, Dawn uses the DR-10L and Portacapture X8 portable field recorders from Tascam.
Spanning a wide range of activities that encompass productions such as the 94th Academy Awards and the 53rd NAACP Awards, podcasts, short film production, and social media, Dawn has a long list of credits. Additionally, she has also worked as a director’s assistant on everything from Netflix features to Playdoh commercials. Currently, she is developing an iOS and Android gaming app and is also planning to include her DR-10L in the production of those projects.
“I generally use the DR-10L for dialogue”, Dawn reports. “It’s super helpful with drone shots on my short films or when I’m filming long shots and need to mic the talent. With its compact form factor, the unit can easily be hidden, which makes it an extremely useful solution for miking the talent.”
While the TV industry experienced a workers strike last year that seriously impeded everything from people’s work schedules to the release of new shows, Dawn was fortunate to have several ongoing projects to keep her working. “Luckily, the industry is starting to boom once again”, she says, “so it’s all coming back. So far, I’ve used the DR-10L on multiple smaller social media projects plus several creative standalone jobs that the strike gave many creatives an opportunity to work on.”
“Being an indie filmmaker means you generally don’t have access to the resources that bigger budget projects have access to”, she continues. “Having something compact, portable, and with a friendly user interface goes a long way in my line of work. Secondly, the DR-10L provides a good range of connectivity options. On podcasts, this is super useful when I need to mic more than two guests. The line in and line out to the camera is also something I don’t often see on other devices. When filming shots on my gimbal, having an input to the camera allows for an easier syncing process in post-production and provides backup audio in most circumstances.”
“Both the Portacapture X8 and DR-10L are game changers”, she adds. “It’s great being able to use both microSD and microSDHC cards, so you can capture a lot of high-quality audio. Plus, the recorders provide roughly ten hours of operation from a single AAA battery. With this capability, long field sessions aren’t an issue.”

Linea Research launches new System Engineer 8 software
Linea Research has launched its new control software System Engineer 8. System Engineer delivers DSP and power management with a workflow-based design to get audio systems up and running in minutes.
The new software - which is free to download from the Linea Research website - enhances the audio capabilities of Linea Research products, communicating all the system information necessary to keep an audio network operational, on one screen and in a simple graphical format.
Fast auto-synchronisation to devices is a driving principle of the software’s design. System Engineer 8 (SE8) quickly identifies, connects and syncs to Linea Research products on the network, so that audio systems are ready for the engineer to start the set up - either in a touring environment or for installation.
Users can arrange device modules (an input and any number of outputs) in any desired arrangement. The amplifier modules can be named for easy identification, and all of the amplifier parameters can be affected with a few clicks, either independently or simultaneously.
The intuitive, three-step workflow starts in Set Up view for the fundamental amplifier configuration. In this view, users choose primary and secondary input sources, establish input and output routing, as well as network and power options.
The next step takes the user to Preset View. The loudspeaker preset libraries are stored here and can be loaded on to one or more devices. The user can also create loudspeaker presets from scratch. The ability to export and share presets between users is a tool for audio system pre-configuration, and manufacturer-approved presets are available from the Linea Research website.
The last step routes the user into Tune View where audio is shaped and contoured. One of the SE8 features is full screen visibility of the EQ and crossover with curve dragging control. The limiter suite is also accessible from this view, so that excursion limiting (XMAX), thermal limiting (TMAX) and RMS limiting (VX) are clearly visible and within easy reach.
The software’s EQ Toggle feature provides multiple EQ palettes on all inputs, all outputs and groups. Users are able to toggle between edited EQs, a function that can prove essential for tuning loudspeakers.
Further time-saving features that also assure immediate accuracy are CTRL/Select, which enables parameters on inputs, outputs or groups to be adjusted simultaneously; and the Copy/Paste function for EQ. This feature enables users to quickly and accurately transfer EQ to another input or output.
SE8 also offers versatile IP addressing to ease the integration of amplification into large IT networks. Drop down menus with a choice of subnet masks simplify the task. SE8 also features an intuitive IO matrix mixer/router and improved telemetry logging - the amplifier has the ability to log certain behaviours during operation. Additionally, a quick-view toolbar allows immediate access to frequently used operations such as “Mute All” and “Sleep All”.

The bezel-free Philips Interactive 3000 Series marks a new generation of advanced multi-touch Android SoC displays from PPDS, the exclusive global provider of Philips Professional Displays and complementary solutions. An update to the Philips T-Line Kiosk display range, the new Interactive 3000 Series has been remodelled to fit market feedback and configured utilising the latest advancement in hardware, PCAP touch technology, and software. Filmmaker Ursula-Ann Siataga favors Tascam’s DR-10L and Portacapture X8 field recorders
With a focus on exposing and addressing a variety of accomplishments and challenges, filmmaker Ursula-Ann Siataga has a passion for supporting the Pacific Islander community. Her work takes her to a wide range of production environments, where she often utilizes the DR-10L ultra-compact Audio Field Recorder with lavalier microphone and the Portacapture X8 8-channel 32-bit float Portable Audio Field Recorder, both from Tascam.
Upon completion of the Social Documentation graduate program at UC Santa Cruz, which was designed to merge social sciences and documentary film, Siataga began her documentary film work on social justice and social change. She is very proud of her 26-minute documentary “My Fa’aSamoa”. After moving back to the San Francisco area to be in service to the Pacific Islander community, she found ways to address health and academic disparities by using film as a medium to do so. Among her most recent credits is the forthcoming podcast titled “Taulogologo News”, on which she uses both the DR-10L and the Portacapture X8.
“I’ve been working with the DR-10L and the Portacapture X8 for roughly ten months”, reports Siataga. “My focus is on dialog for documentary and podcast production. One of the DR-10L attributes that I really appreciate is its ability to record without frequency interference of being wireless. This is so important when we are in production interviewing someone, either indoors or outdoors.”
“I also find the DR-10L’s range of acquiring sound to be exceptional”, she continues. “Recently, we were outdoors filming our interviewee who was wearing the DR-10L lavalier mic and walking through his old neighborhood. The interviewee’s longtime friend - who had no mic - saw him and walked up to greet him. They had a powerful conversation that we captured solely using the DR-10L with only one mic on our interviewee.”
As for Tascam’s AK-BT1 Bluetooth Adapter, she shares: “I’ve only used it once so far, but hope to use it more. The ability to have the Portacapture X8 positioned on one end of a scene while I can control the sound using Bluetooth via my phone is next level.”

Dali launches the new Phantom M-80 A in-ceiling speaker alongside the new Phantom CI Amp-4750 DSP 4-channel amplifier. “The Phantom M-80 A expands the Phantom series and offers more options for discreet in-ceiling installations”, says Michael Munch, CI Business Development Manager at Dali.

The M-80 A incorporates a 7 inch bass/midrange driver, angled at 25°, to provide sound radiation that is preferentially beamed in one direction. Preferential beaming enables M-80 A speaker placement that ensures optimum dispersion for the specific audio installation. The M-80 A also features compass style direction indicators further to configure dispersion to suit the installation.
The Amp-4750 DSP amplifier is designed to provide high performance and configurable audio power amplification for all Dali Phantom custom install loudspeakers and subwoofers. It is a full rack width, 2U format four channel power amplifier rated at 750 Watts per channel. The Amp-4750 DSP provides four analogue inputs and one stereo S/PDIF digital input. Its DSP functions enable it to be configured via the Dali Phantom CI Amp Configurator and with specific presets designed for individual Dali loudspeaker models.
Access to the Amp Configurator interface is possible through a wired or wireless network connection to the Amp-4750 DSP, either directly from a smartphone or laptop, or via a network router or switch.

Die neuen Differenzstromwandler SCT4xxx und die neue Leistungsmessklemme EL3446-0011 von Beckhoff Automation ermöglichen in Kombination eine kontinuierliche Überwachung und zustandsbasierte Wartung und ersparen Betreibern erhöhte Kosten aufgrund fester, vorab festgelegter Wartungsintervalle.
Die Leistungsmessklemme EL3446-0011 ermöglicht eine umfangreiche Netzanalyse und unterstützt das Energiemanagement, indem sie alle relevanten elektrischen Daten des Versorgungsnetzes misst und eine einfache Vorauswertung übernimmt. Mit 100-mA-Eingängen ist sie auch für die Auswertung von Differenzstromwandlern, wie etwa SCT4xxx, geeignet, welche bereits geringe Fehlerströme als auch Ableitströme (Typ A) detektieren.
Die Durchsteck-Stromwandler SCT4xxx für Differenzstrom Typ A und 25 A AC stehen in vier Baugrößen für 20- bis 120-mm-Rundleiter zur Verfügung. In Kombination von SCT4xxx und EL3446-0011 lassen sich mithilfe der integrierten Oberwellenanalyse der Leistungsmessklemme eventuelle Differenzströme sofort und ohne zusätzliches Messequipment detailliert auf mögliche Ursprünge untersuchen.

Beckhoff veröffentlicht neuen Industrie-Server für den Schaltschrankeinbau
Der neue Industrie-Server C6670-0020 von Beckhoff Automation ist mit zwei Prozessoren der Reihe Intel Xeon Scalable der 5. Generation mit bis zu 32 Cores pro CPU und einem Speicher von 128 bis 1.024 GB DDR5-RAM ausgestattet. Damit eignet er sich für Maschinensteuerungen mit dem Planarmotorantriebssystem XPlanar von Beckhoff.
Der Industrie-Server steht zunächst in sechs CPU-Ausführungen zur Verfügung, beginnend bei zwei Prozessoren vom Typ Intel Xeon Silver 4510 mit 2,4 GHz Taktfrequenz und jeweils zwölf Kernen, insgesamt also 24 Cores, und bis zu zwei Prozessoren vom Typ Intel Xeon Gold 6530 mit 2,1 GHz Taktfrequenz und jeweils 32 Cores, also in Summe 64 Cores.
Der C6670-0020 kann mit M.2-NVMe-SSDs mit bis zu 640 GB und mit bis zu zwei Festplatten mit 1, 2 oder 4 TB ausgestattet werden und verfügt über fünf freie PCIe-Slots für zum Beispiel EtherCAT- oder Ethernet-Feldbuskarten. Alle Anschlüsse des Industrie-Servers weisen zur Oberseite, sodass die Anschlusskabel direkt in einen Verdrahtungskanal geführt werden können. Die Seitenwände sind rein passiv und ermöglichen den Einbau des Industrie-Servers unmittelbar neben anderen Schaltschrankgeräten.
Enthalten sind zwei Festplatten-Wechselrahmen, die zusammen mit dem On-Board-RAID-Controller ein RAID-1-System mit zwei gespiegelten Festplatten oder SSDs bilden. Damit ist eine hohe Datensicherheit gegeben. Ausgefallene Festplatten oder SSDs können während des Betriebs mit einem Handgriff ausgetauscht werden.
Weiterhin lässt sich ein Multi-DVD-Laufwerk einbauen. Niederhalter für die Steckkarten sorgen für Unempfindlichkeit gegen Stöße und Vibrationen. Laufwerke, Speicher und Steckkarten sind leicht erreichbar. Der C6670 wird mit 100-bis-240-V-AC-Full-Range-Netzteil geliefert.

Amadeus Acoustics releases new plugin integration for Q-Sys technology
Amadeus Acoustics has announced that its new Q-Sys plugin integration - Amadeus Immersive Acoustics plugin - will be available from January 28, 2025. As a contributor to the Q-Sys Ecosystem, Amadeus Acoustics collaborated with Q-Sys to create a market-ready control solution that integrates seamlessly into Q-Sys, a cloud-manageable audio, video, and control platform.
The Amadeus Immersive Acoustics plugin has been fully vetted and endorsed with a Q-Sys Certified badge. The plugin offers innovative features designed to enhance the immersive audio experience, including Acoustic Preset Control, 3D Audio Input Positioning, Volume and Mute Control, and Synchronization with the Amadeus ART Platform.
Acoustic Preset Control enables users to manage up to 100 Acoustic Presets, with intuitive display of the currently activated preset and status. 3D Audio Input Positioning enables to control up to 64 3D source positions, including X, Y, Z coordinates, shape, and pan algorithm; these settings can be saved as snapshots within the plugin.
Volume and Mute Control enables to adjust and mute volume levels, while the Synchronization with the Amadeus ART Platform feature makes the Amadeus ART Platform communicate with the plugin to ensure real-time updates and functionality.
Amadeus will demonstrate the Amadeus Immersive Acoustics plugin’s capabilities during the upcoming Q-Sys demo event at ISE 2025.

United Studio Technologies unveils UT Twin48 twin mode tube-driven large diaphragm condenser microphone
United Studio Technologies’ new UT Twin48 studio microphone delivers two classic tube microphone designs of the late 1940s and 1950s in a single enclosure. Classic 47 and 48-style mics each derived their cardioid operation in very different ways - producing subtle tone differences as well as a slightly different polar pattern. For the first time ever, the UT Twin48 delivers both options in a single microphone.
47 Mode offers both 47 Cardioid and Omni patterns, while 48 Mode offers 48 Cardioid and Figure-of-8. Each cardioid mode delivers a different tonal flavor and performance: 47 Cardioid de-couples the rear diaphragm in a process known as True Cardioid, for a louder sound with improved sensitivity with more background and top-end detail; 48 Cardioid polarizes the rear diaphragm with the same voltage as the backplate - AKA Active Cardioid - for a more tightly closed-in, warmer, intimate tone that is a bit lower in sensitivity.
At the heart of the UT Twin48 lies a select NOS EF86 pentode glass vacuum tube, the last living descendent of the originals’ tube. It delivers a bold, rich sound, due to the pentode’s harmonic profile being different than modern dual-triode tubes.
The UT Twin48 features the custom United UT K48 capsule, crafted to match the single backplate/dual diaphragm design with historical accuracy. Skinned in a laboratory clean-room environment and 24k gold-sputtered on 6-micron Mylar, this capsule aims to ensure a smooth, resonance-free sound that’s free of excessive brightness or sibilance. Complementing the capsule is the US-made UT-BV8 transformer, wound to original Braunbuch specifications with high-nickel alloy laminations and a copper Faraday shield, aiming to ensure optimal signal integrity and noise rejection.
The UT Twin48’s power unit features US-made components, discrete Zener diode regulation, and robust EMI/RFI filters. This power supply ensures maintenance-free operation. The included Sommer Octave 7 conductor cable has been optimized for the Twin48.
The UT Twin48’s components include audiophile grade polystyrene, tantalum, and film capacitors, plus audiophile grade, US-made PRP thin-film resistors. Also included is a vintage-inspired briefcase - custom-fit to house the UT Twin48 and all included accessories.
The United Studio Technologies UT Twin48 will be available for pre-order beginning January 16, 2025, and is expected to ship in Q1 2025.
