Tieline unveils new ViA remote codec

Codec manufacturer Tieline has unveiled a new remote audio codec named ViA at NAB 2016 show in Las Vegas. "We have completely redesigned the user interface in ViA and there is a focus on simplicity and usability when creating and monitoring live connections," William McLean, CEO Tieline, explains.

ViA includes Tieline's new Fuse-IP data aggregation technology, which lets users bond any available IP interface. Users choose from 2 USB modems, 2 Ethernet connections or onboard Wi-Fi. For example, one can bond 2 USB modem data links from different Telcos and let Fuse-IP technology automatically manage the data capability of each link.

ViA also includes Tieline's SmartStream Plus dual redundant streaming technology, plus features like Automated Jitter Buffer management, Forward Error Correction and advanced error concealment strategies. If an optional POTS or ISDN module is inserted into ViA, the codec is instantly transformed to connect over alternative network transports. Primary and backup connections can be configured over different network transports; also either POTS or ISDN can be used as an IFB circuit.

ViA has three balanced mic/line XLR inputs, three headphone outputs and supports digital AES3 in. A stereo auxiliary input enables to connect analog or digital audio sources to provide five inputs in total. High fidelity audio can be streamed by using 24 bit, 96 kHz linear audio, Opus, Tieline Music or MusicPlus, LC-AAC and HE-AAC v.1 and v.2, AAC-LD, AAC-ELD, AptX Enhanced, MPEG Layer 2, G.711 (u-law and a-law) and G.722. ViA can be controlled and configured from anywhere with an internet connection using the ToolBox HTML5 or Java web browser configuration tools.
